A powerful herb

The name oregano is derived from the Greek oros (meaning mountain) and ganos (meaning joy). The literal translation means “mountain of happiness,” since it covers hillsides in the Mediterranean and smothers them with beautiful fragrance and flowers. According to Greek mythology, the goddess Aphrodite cultivated the ancient herb in her garden at the top of Mount Olympus as a symbol of happiness and joy. As a result of this, wreaths were made for wedding ceremonies with its branches to bring joy to the newlyweds. Today oregano is known to all of us as a culinary herb that has beneficial properties and benefits for the body. It can be used fresh, dried or as an oil. Although usually used in small quantities, oregano contains some important nutrients. Just one teaspoon of dried oregano can meet about 8% of your daily vitamin K needs.
